Featuring the likes of Raima Sen and Abir Chatterjee, this Sandip Ray movie follows the lives of Jadunath and his family. Jadunath s grandchildren, Manmath and Nanda are poles apart with Manmath s waywardness, despite Jadunath s warning being covered up by the more docile and conscientious Nanda. An intriguing situation erupts when an intruder enters their lives. The family is very protective about an heirloom, a rare ruby, which is also their ancestral totem. Fearing that the same might have been stolen, the family foils the robbery but the thief is nowhere to be found. Much later, Nanda realizes that he has taken refuge in her wardrobe. The compassionate Nanda gives this intruder, whose name is Divakar, a chance to change the course of his life. She introduces him to her grandfather as a young man looking for work and the grateful Divakar takes up the job that Jadunath offers him. Manmath who is slowly sliding towards a life of loose morals, is perpetually in debt and asks Diwakar to fudge the accounts and give him a loan from Jadunath s funds. This leads to a confrontation between him and Nanda. The respect and love that Nanda and Jadunath shower on Diwakar changes him forever and in the process, he falls in love with Nanda In the meantime, Manmath has turned desperate and starts stealing from his own family. Who would Nanda support? A reformed criminal who is passionately in love with her or her only brother who has managed to survive by taking up rather dubious paths of action.
