Trendy clothes are cheaper than ever. That sounds great for the people who buy them, but it's horrible for the people who make them.

if companies really cared about the conditions in their factories, they'd oversee it directly instead of subcontracting. I honestly would rather pay an extra £2 for a t-shirt if they at least checked children aren't working there and made sure their factories are fire safe.
Alex Turlais
don't worry. now we've got trump, he'll cut wages and regulations so much it's cheaper to make stuff in America than in Bangladesh!

This raises the question of where do these clothes end up and where and how are the materials for the clothing being made?
Kathryn Fisher
"Eat the wagon of mystery chickens" sounds like an option for punishment on a Japanese quiz show after answering a question wrong.
Max Kinlin
I like how he covers these issues but one problem he doesn't address is the impact consumer has in the market we want the fast changing fashion this is the price we pay.
Amandine Nguyen
praise living pot wdrcu naked survival leg legislation pack.

Meanwhile, a dress from DOLCE & GABBANA cost more than a yr's tuition... is it not sad that those who depend on such cheap/child labour are the poorer public themselves?
Nawal
John's show is the greatest one right now, he has amazing material and better jokes than the other comedians and his delivery is fantastic!!
Carlos Chilipimmel
boy, thats depressing

Loved the adorable girl in the end, brought a big smile on my face and it's really heartbreaking how can these brands not pay attention to this? media has to care about the world beyond the big cities

1100 dead, how many died 9/11?

Developing countries has to inevitably go through a child labor phase so that they can become developed. You can attempt to regulate this but it will come at the cost of delaying when those countries will be able to become first world.

I was wondering why you decided to Geoblock Canada from your videos? Makes me think about leaving the channel.

Insane consumerism. One comment under this vid said "I love sweatshop" (sic) - you sick excuse for a human being... This American addiction to shopping is disgusting.

In the past decade, I have probably bought 20 items of clothing. This counts shoes.
Nick Sikes
I don't think child labor should be allowed but I don't rule the world. So I guess my body will have to suffer in the comfort of the blood, sweat and tears of their labor. (A horrible thing to say but people don't care about this fact when they put on new clothes). I will say it because there is nothing people are willing to do to change it. Go ahead people, change it on me. I dare you.
Karis Balôck
You have no idea how much these kids need that money for their family. They need to work, but it's gotta be in better conditions.
kpmh2001
my opinion on clothes? I buy it if its fuzzy and comfortable, is it fashionable? i dont fucking care.
Tom Shaw
Dan Gurewitch cameo!!
Orion Roy-Wright
also walmart contract a factory that could produce there clothing within there regulations for a price. that company contracted it for cheaper and pocket the difference. that said those people are working there because the other option is worse.........
Orion Roy-Wright
I love John oliver, but unfortunately terrible labour standards are the early stage of development, agreed its awful but its part of development that ends up as wealthy as us. go some where where there was awful clothing development 25 years ago then go where there wasn't. one is better then the other.
dmelkumo
If the child doesnt have good parents or is starving, I would rather him/her join the factory after school than street.
thecocksaysmoo
tiny brown hands make your clothes :(
Shakil
The horror inside a garment factory doesn't end there. Workers are paid around 100$ per month in Bangladesh. There are zero safety in the most of the garments, within the last 5 years, thousands of workers died from fire, electricity and building collapse.
None of this news make it to the people who buy the products, probably never will.

DIRTEMPERER 333

Jacob Carney
I would like to point out in the long run if the money is used correctly then sweat shops are good while I agree it is horrible the conditions guess what the only things you can bring to an economy are more efficient labor more skilled labor or cheap labor and people in Bangladesh can only offer the last one and if you forced companies to spend more on those sweat shops they don't get built in the first place and they end up in prostitution

Oops

However if they are smart they will invest in education and then they have more to offer then cheap labor and can break the poverty cycle

I have been doing a great deal of reading on sweatshops and its a really sad sad thing.I'm not a fan of talk shows but this showed up, and I'm so glad he directly addressed those greedy billionaires. If you watch how these clothes are made, it's excruciating.I'm not a SJW or a feminist, but its so sad.I feel horrible.Watch deadly fashion or the Raza plaza documentry
Shane Delahunty
It's such a shame that so many Americans use so little of their spending money on products made in 1st world nations such as the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Japan. I actively buy from these countries and other phenomenal nations of the 1st world because I actually care about the existence of a strong middle class. I care about the existence of factories that employ people who earn great wages, great training and safe working conditions. In return I get a product of outstanding quality made by people who have a passion for what they do. A product that will last a long time if not a lifetime rather than end up in a landfill very quickly. Start becoming ethical consumers people. It's easier than you think for the vast majority of goods.
Skranbets HF
Am I the only one thinking that the foods aren't that cheap? They're actually kinda expensive.
Le Touriste

Marijuana Mommy
you acually talk about whay is important and call ppl/companies out in their bull shit! absolutely love it!
Blahblah blah some channel
I wonder how any of that affected the child labor, I see two options:
1) The kids come out of the factories for the first time in years, went to school, got high paying jobs and live happily ever after.
2) They lost a major source of income and are now living in even more miserable poverty, with zero chances of improving their lives, all in the name of the hypocritical self righteousness of western assholes.

What do you think?
