Gotta be difficult to be an unpaid student athlete who is getting concussions daily.
What entitled brats. Plenty of students have tougher schedules and still get all As in actual classes.
Lews Therin Talamon
No, the only other thing with that many finicky rules are the DnD grappling rules.
It's a tough schedule to follow and I do think there needs to be structuring for school. I won't agree with paying them though
Fuck that white guy.
You have to appreciate the unbelievable poetic historical irony of predominantly black young men fuelling unpaid a multi million dollar industry by being verbally abused by old white millionaires all to earn an education in African American Studies. Just. Beautiful.
Here is something to consider: Not all athletes get full scholarships, or even scholarships at all. Only 85 scholarships are available for a football team of 120 men. Only 9.9 scholarships are available for a wrestling team of 30+ men (I typed that correctly, 9.9). Some sports don't have scholarships at all. But people are quick to say these athletes are whiners and don't do anything in class or for the school in general. Go figure.
450 pages of stupid rules.
Did anyone else notice "Press Escape to exit full screen mode"?
You know turning college athletics into a form of Work Study job could be an interesting idea
Ed O'Bannon works at a car dealership now?
I get the argument that students can not be paid but that only makes since when the students aren't making millions and millions for the educational institution. This is bullshit. Many of these kids are not going to go on to have professional careers. This is their shot at a halfway decent financial start in life and they deserve it. Without them, these assholes wouldn't be getting rich.
in all fairness that seems like the kind of thing that's there to stop players from getting special treatment, and as such they had to call him on it or else they could lose the right to call it on people who do show acts of favoritism
Birthdays on March
Rick Pitno and Joe Paterno enter the hall of shame.
I guess free education, free housing, free food, free travel, and a good shot at making millions down the line isn't considered being fairly compensated. When you tally it all up, college athletes are paid an equivalent of 200,000 dollars over their short careers, but since that pay is in assets instead of cash they're considered unpaid.
College athletes are not professionals and never should be. To pay these players would mean this is no longer college sports. It would break away from their traditions and become just another corporate machine like the NFL.
John Oliver called this one. John Oliver do an episode on the NCAA corruption surfacing please!!!
Slavery at its Best. awkward~~~~ Most of the PLayers are Black yet the Coaches are mostly White~~~~ 'SLavery~~~~~ movie in the making...

Doesn't the revenue from sports like football and basketball go to programs like volleyball and track and field?
Pay them, but take away the scholarships. The athlete can pay for his education out of their income. Also, please stop comparing this to slavery. No athlete was taken from his home in the middle of the night and forced to play the game. No athlete would have his or her spouse "sold" to another school. College sports may have issues needed to be addressed, but it's not slavery.
The fact that you can have an on-campus job but athletes can't make money for their contributions to the bottom line of a university is ridiculous.
What's with John Oliver and DeWalt?
America is sick
Personally I'd rather make it so the NCAA doesn't get money either than the other way around-
After almost every episode i think "the USA are so fucked up"
Why did I get an Honest Trailer vibe from the video game announcer?
College student perspective here: College athletics and compensation is a really interesting question because these students are paid in the form of tuition which depending on the school can be alot. Some schools also pay for meal plans to ensure their student athletes have enough to eat. It is wrong that they aren't paid in money, but outside of paying tuition what is a good wage? I work on campus around 20 hours a week, making slightly over minimum wage and everything I make has to go back to the University in the form of tuition. I literally do not make a profit. So what would be a fair wage for student athletes? Its a really interesting question.
9:16 for cat poster.
So disappointed that they didn't use a screenshot of John Oliver teaching in "Community" when talking about an anthropology teacher with a whistle coaching!
Except you gloss over the fact that Richard Sherman went to Stanford. Not all D-I athletes have nearly as rigorous a schedule. Athletes should be allowed to get endorsements, but having recently graduated from a D-I school and been friends with many student athletes, both scholarship and non-scholarship, they get a pretty good gig. It's time-consuming, but it's time-consuming to be a regular student with extracurriculars. And remember - they're playing a sport. Furthermore the profits from the "big" D-I sports subsidize the sports that don't make money. So, fine, make the schools pay athletes, and watch as schools cut tons of other sports and extracurricular activites due to budget shortfalls.
Is it that hard to give them a compensation and letting them make an earning by other acitvities? Also just not ruining lives when they got an injury?
The fact coaches sometimes earn millions for an "amateur" team is just rediculous. Shows how corrupt the whole system is.

The NCAA is a corrupt business
college precisely tribal shallow particular own short.
Same shit with destroying he lost his d1 scholarship due to his YT channel
I hope everyone who watches this has discovered since that it was shown that Napier lied about the food situation.
I'm mixed on this. Yes, coaches are waaaay overpaid. But as a regular college student that's paying tuition, I have no sympathy as these athletes get a full ride just because they can play well. Too many high school students with exceptional GPA's don't receive scholarships. Call me salty I guess.
It's just frustrating when you're taking a huge exam and all these athletes finish it in 5 minutes. It's rigged against us normal students. I can see why they're not getting paid. Would they compensate all athletes equally? Golf and soccer aren't as popular as football and basketball.
I'd be a bit mad if they were paid, since everything else is being given to them. It's a disservice to other students who have brilliant minds and worked extra hard in the high school years. Especially when we are already paying athletic fees on top of our tuition.
John, you may not know this but this is EA (Electronic Arts) we are talking about. The only authenticity you'll get from them is the most authentic way we can make a shitty game and rake in more profit than the production, labour, transport cost and programmer bodies every wall is built with combined
Fuck NCAA nigga let a young nigga get paid nigga !!!!
Firm sign slip upset tape along patient trail.
Does anyone know the song as 0:15? I swear I watched the show and hate how a student got offered a scholarship and then once he was injured couldn't get an education is sad. I've seen the episode many times, the story keeps me coming back. But, the song of the woman singing wheels in motion is also now making me come back.
They are learning Swahili because they love Baba Yetu
There's paid internships...I don't get it, like no benefits at all? Why even do it? It's not even like they'll be able to actually pursue an education in a major that will land them a job after graduating college...if they are 100% dedicated to the sport they're being driven to play for no compensation, I doubt they can major in engineering or finance or anything that would take up a lot of time studying...
The promise of a free education in return of playing college sports sounds like the same marketing lie that they used to get indentured servants and slaves. This is bullshit and people need to help some of these kids out....
They should be annualy not every year in march.... What?
